Testimonials

"I arrived at the 6th Step Recovery House with an open mind, willing to get sober. I made a commitment to myself to stay 10 months to a tear no matter what. I did what was suggested to me by Rick and other positive members of the community. For once in my life I actually felt part of something. Between working the steps with a sponsor and going to meetings. I tried to keep my focus on staying close to the 6th Step House, where I kept busy doing odd jobs and my chores around the house with other members of the community, to help keep the place nice for the next guy. And it paid off, between me and my higher power I know the sky is the limit, one day at a time, thanks to Rick R. and the 6th Step Recovery House."

"I started my journey of recovery in September 2004. I had many ups and downs, and with every slip I had I have been blessed to be lucky enough to have made it back to the rooms of the 12 Step Programs that are designed to show alcoholics / addicts how to live a sober and clean life. By being an active member of the Sixth Step House, I have celebrated my past two birthdays clean and sober. I have become very close friends with many of the Sixth Step House. I pray that the Sixth Step House stays around for many more years so that other guys have the same chance that I have had to develop a foundation in recovery and be a part of something greater."

My stay at Sixth Step Recovery House was definitely a positive one, it made getting involved in recovery easy. It gave me the feeling that I deserved to get the most out of life. The living areas were always well kept and maintained by all of us who lived there. We were all given daily chores to do which helped to improve and maintain the facility, and most important, it made you feel a part of the community. We were real proud to say that we lived at the Sixth Step House.

"Shortly after my arrival at the Sixth Step House, I developed a close bond with the residents and the owner, Rick. That was a big help in starting out my program of recovery. The requirements were "sponsor, home group, and work the steps". These were things I know I would not have done on my own. So I followed every suggestion and the results are truly amazing.  It's wonderful... the difference in attitude toward life and everything. Before I got sober all I wanted to do is die. Thanks to the Sixth Step Recovery House and Rick Riccardi for showing me there is truly a better way of life. Now, one day at a time, I have 21 months sober and if all goes well, in April I will ask Rick to give me my 2 year medallion. Thanks Rick, for helping me find a higher power and a better way of life."

"In April 2006, I was indescribably miserable.  There was nothing left. My foxhole prayer to God was ‘give me the courage to end my life.’  My life was characterized by bad choices.  I was completely overwhelmed and full of fear.  I had a pending DUI charged, was unemployable and broke, on bad terms with my family, essentially Godless, and only 2 weeks sober.

When I showed up on the doorsteps of the Sixth Step Recovery House I couldn’t believe the warm reception shown to me by both Rick and the residents.  People were actually happy!  The house provided a safe and friendly environment which made coming home from work something to look forward to.  Most of us had years of struggling, trying unsuccessfully to incorporate the AA Program into our lives.  Being able to live sober together, share our hardships, our victories and our hopes created a brotherhood that I will never forget.  The same guys I drank with in times of trouble, I now prayed with in times of worry.

Over the past couple of years, Rick, along with the wonderful network of AA friends in the rooms and the Fellowship Houses have helped me immensely in teaching me how to live a sober and honest life.

After 28 months as a resident of Fellowship Living, I asked God for guidance knowing it was time to move on.  Almost immediately, an apartment across the street from the Fellowship Recovery House became available.  Today I enjoy the perfect combination of security and fellowship.  I thank all those friends, along with Rick, for giving me today a life beyond my wildest dreams."
